Re: HSBC interim dividend

Understood thanks. Could also be useful for things like Verizon dividends.

I do hold HSBC, but in a normal UK (nominee) share dealing account, so no options there for me.

Re: HSBC interim dividend

Everyone who invests in HSBC knows that they declare their dividend in US Dollars so fluctuations caused by exchange is hardly surprising. For the last few dividends I have taken my dividends in US Dollars and will continue for a while yet. If [more]

Re: My lesson learned from TSCO & TATE

After a big analysis of my HYP about 6 months ago I decided to sell out of one share entirely and reduce my holding in another. In fairness to me my failure to act on my decision wasn't because I thought that I could time the market, it was [more]

Re: Friday morning

If 'no' wins, as the bookies expect, I believe there will be a general stockmarket rally but it will most affect stocks heavily exposed to Scotland, so those are the ones I'd be buying now - if I thought the bookies are right. In particular I'd [more]

Yes, Standard Life did pull back yesterday, though not enough for me, - it still hasn't undone the gains of last week's Canadian sale news. I was hoping to top up before the 10th(ex-div), but as my main holding is up some 70%, I need a greater [more]

Higher yield doesn't necessarily mean a higher total return

jfh55,

My post was responding to the OP's comparison of different dividend yields and dividend growth rates, thus total return and growth stocks didn't come into. [more]

Re: Comparison of dividends reinvested

The comparison also ignores the fact that one could be investing that higher dividend from share A into another higher yielding stock, (all) along the way, thus further enhancing the return from Share A.

I would sit down and study the prospects for the company, and decide whether I felt it worth holding as a recovery stock.
