Re: audacity and on-board sound

Windows only allows for one single sound input and output device.

I've seen a problem in the past where plugging in a USB sound device takes over from the soundcard. And when you unplug the USB you're left with nothing. No default device. It [more]

Re: Compact wireless keyboard

Fairly ambivalent about Bluetooth vs. other wireless

Cheap wireless devices can be very insecure. A friend of mine bought a cheapo wireless keyboard. Set it up in his student accomodation. It went mad and started typing randomly. [more]

Re: Leaving a rented property early

The simple principle of contract law is if you default then you pay for the other's losses. So if they relet you will only pay for the time it is empty, plus possibly any incurred costs like advertising/agent's fees.

Re: Travel insurance query

Travel insurance is a real minefield. There are different levels of cover depending what you want. For example...

Single holiday or annual?

European medical is cheap (mostly covered by EHIC)
RoTW medical is reasonable

Re: Admirals in the navy

The Falklands task force contained 2 aircraft carriers. The current fleet does not have any.
That task force had 8 Destroyers. The entire Royal Navy now has 6.
The task force had 15 Frigates. The entire Royal Navy now has 13.

tanks are becoming as anachronistic on today's battlefields

Tanks are still very good at taking and holding ground. Something all the airpower in the world cannot achieve.

Since this is the Practical board, I'll say there are no changes planned.

Politicians don't like to enact unpopular changes too quickly. It means they have to face the backlash. Their preferred method is to legislate for changes which only [more]
