Also that the taxation of shares granted to employee's is covered by special rules (and it can be quite onerous); but I believe there is a concession with ISA's which allows you to put them in. Don't know it in depth though.

There are different types of civil service scheme; the traditional type based on final salary and the newer ones based on contributions made. There are also top up scheme's that work on a money purchase basis.

Germany is great; reasonable prices and lots of interesting places to see. The Schwartzwald (black forest) scenery is very pretty. More castles than you can shake a stick at.

Some people have portfolio's too large for ISA's (e.g proceeds of a property sale)

Also the tax advantages of an ISA are quite limited for a lower rate taxpayer.
